Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs tutoring?
▼
If your child is finding schoolwork harder than their peers, losing confidence, dreading certain subjects, or simply not progressing the way you'd expect, tutoring can help. It's also worth considering if your child is bright but bored — extension and acceleration are just as much a part of what we do as catch-up.
The clearest signal is often a gut feeling that something isn't quite right. If you're unsure, give us a call and we'll help you think it through.
Do you assess my child before we start?
▼
Yes. Every new student begins with an initial assessment so we understand exactly where they're at. From there we recommend the right format (one-to-one or semi-private).
How long are the sessions?
▼
Sessions run for 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the student's age and program.
How often should my child come?
▼
Most students attend once a week during term. For students working on intensive catch-up or preparing for exams, twice a week can produce faster results.
Will my child have the same tutor each week?
▼
Yes — and we think this matters enormously. Your child works with the same tutor every session, someone who knows their strengths, their challenges, and the way they learn.
Are your tutors qualified teachers?
▼
Yes. All of our tutors are qualified teachers. We choose teachers for their specialist knowledge, their ability to connect with children, and their track record of getting results.
Do your teachers have Blue Cards?
▼
Yes. Every teacher at Noosa Tutoring Centre holds a current Queensland Working with Children Check.
How long until I see results?
▼
Every child is different, but most parents start to notice changes within the first few weeks — usually in confidence and attitude before they see it in the marks. Real academic progress builds over a term and beyond.
What if my child doesn't enjoy the first session?
▼
That's rare, but if it happens, talk to us. Often it's a question of fit — the time of day, the format, or the teacher — and we'll work with you to find a better setup. We want your child to look forward to coming.
When are sessions available?
▼
We offer sessions before school, during school hours, and after school, plus holiday workshops. Once you book a regular slot, that time is held for your child each week through the term.
How much does it cost?
▼
Pricing depends on the year level and the format. Semi-private sessions are more affordable per student than one-to-one. Get in touch and we'll send you our current rates along with a recommendation based on what your child needs.
How do I enrol?
▼
The first step is a phone call or enquiry form and we'll have a chat about your child. Call us on 5474 9333 or send an enquiry.
Why can't my child read?
▼
Children are Visual or Auditory learners — and the way a child learns affects how they best develop reading skills. This can be identified through a diagnostic assessment, which allows a qualified teacher to write an individualised program specifically for your child.
Our Keys to Reading program uses proven methods to develop decoding, phonics, fluency and comprehension. Call Noosa Tutoring Centre to book an assessment or contact us via our website.
Why can't my child spell?
▼
Many children have difficulty with spelling, and it's more common than you might think. Our spelling program is designed to improve visual memory and focuses on stretching and training visual recall.
Through structured steps, the program teaches children to look at words in a new way — which simultaneously helps both reading and spelling. View the Spelling program or call us for more information.
Why can't my child comprehend what they read?
▼
Comprehension is about more than reading words — it's about forming meaning. Our Visualising and Verbalising program develops mental imagery as a base for language comprehension and thinking.
This program helps children improve reading and writing, comprehend instructions and sustain focus. It's used across primary and secondary year levels. Call us for more information or to make an appointment.
My child has poor handwriting — can you help?
▼
Yes. Noosa Tutoring Centre offers a dedicated handwriting program covering letter formation, pencil grip, spacing and fluency. It's available for students from early primary through to secondary school.

How can you help with the Year 6 to Year 7 transition?
▼

It addresses the academic, organisational and study skill challenges that commonly arise during this transition. View the Transition program or call us for an appointment.
Is my child ready for school?
▼
Our Prep4Prep program is a specialised school readiness program for children aged 4–6. It covers alphabet recognition, early numeracy, reading readiness, fine motor skills, and the foundational habits that help children settle confidently into Prep.
We also offer an initial assessment that evaluates school readiness across key areas — helping us identify exactly what your child needs. View Prep4Prep or call us to find out more.
